Hormasice

The Sugar Syrup:

  • 450g sugar
  • 550g water
  • Juice of half a lemon

Cook water and sugar for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened and sugar has dissolved. Add the lemon juice, mix it in and set aside to cool completely.

The Hormasica Biscuits

  • 250g unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 200g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 baking powder bag (kesica, ?? g)
  • 430g flour
  • 250g chopped walnuts

Steps:

  1. Beat sugar and butter with electric mixer for a few minutes, then add eggs and continue beating.
  2. Add baking powder, flour, and chopped walnuts, finish mixing by hand as it becomes too thick to mix with mixer.
  3. Shape hormasice and bake in oven preheated at 175-180C until very slightly golden (they should still be fairly pale). Note: Start checking them around 15 minutes, they are safe before that.
  4. Once removed from the oven, pour the COOLED syrup all over, put in the fridge minimum 3 hours before eating.

Optional Step 3.5: Steal one without syrup while hot.
